A Fresh Look｜Viola odorata - Queen Charlotte｜ Other Products

Extremely scented and wonderfully carefree, Viola odorata ‘Queen Charlotte’ is the reigning sovereign of sweet violets. Upward-facing lavender-blue flowers rise above heart-shaped leaves, making the blooms easier to admire than those of many violets—and allowing their old-fashioned perfume to drift freely through the garden.
This long-lived perennial forms a dense, low clump about 4–6 inches tall and roughly 15 inches wide. Its scale makes it perfect for pathway edges, woodland gardens, shaded containers, the feet of shrubs, and little pockets where a larger groundcover would feel heavy-handed. Plant it near a doorway, bench, or frequently traveled path so the fragrance does not go unnoticed.
The spring flowers are lovely in tiny posies and bring a surprisingly luxurious presence to the smallest vase. After bloom, the rich green foliage continues as a tidy groundcover in cool, sheltered spaces. Bright shade or part shade protects the leaves from harsh exposure, while regular moisture helps maintain the lush effect. In a mass, the leaves make a handsome green skirt beneath shrubs and taller shade perennials.
Small, fragrant, and possessed of considerably more presence than its height suggests, ‘Queen Charlotte’ proves that royalty need not take up much room. Explore more violets and Violas.
